Inlay Restorations

An inlay restoration is a custom made dental filling made out of porcelain, composite or gold material by a specialized dental laboratory. They are a very good alternative to silver or composite fillings especially if larger portion of the tooth has been affected.

They will give the tooth better stability and strength when affected with biting forces and will prevent the breakage. Just like any other dental restoration, inlay is not a permanent solution and will need to be replaced over time. They are very durable and will last for a long time especially with proper care and good oral hygiene.

Indications for the inlay restoration are:

Decayed teeth
Large silver or composite fillings
Fractured fillings
Broken teeth
Cosmetic enhancement
Inlay procedure requires mostly two appointments. During the first visit, several impressions (molds) need to be taken so the inlay can be manufactured in the dental lab according to your bite and tooth morphology.

Elgin Inlay Restorations
While the tooth is numbed by a local anesthetic, your Elgin dentist will remove tooth decay or old fillings. The working area is then cleaned and dried and shaped in a way to fit the inlay properly. Temporary filling will be placed to protect the tooth while the inlay is prepared in the laboratory.

During your second appointment, your custom made inlay will be cemented to your tooth. It is possible that few adjustments are necessary to fit properly. Your bite will be checked and the inlay corrected if the problem in biting occurs.

You will receive a set of instructions by your trusted Elgin dentist on how to take care of your inlay and how to keep it for along time. Along with the good oral hygiene and balanced healthy diet, regular dental exams are necessary to ensure the stability of the inlay.
